Which heavy-duty padlock should I buy?

Start with what is trying to get in, not with the price. If the threat is weather, buy the anti-rust VS 40 AR — a stainless shackle is worth more than an extra 10 mm of brass. If it is bolt cutters, buy the VS 50 HD and keep the shackle short and tight to the hasp. If it is a roller shutter, buy the VAT 50 HD monoblock, because a lock with no exposed shackle cannot have its shackle cut.

And if the real problem is that you are carrying eleven keys, the answer is not a lock at all — it is a key system. That is the part most sellers will not help you with.

What a padlock cannot do

We would rather set this out here than have you discover it after a break-in.

An angle grinder beats every padlock on this page, and every padlock on any page — including locks costing ten times these. Security is not about being uncuttable; it is about time, noise and visibility. A short shackle pulled tight to a good hasp, in a lit and overlooked spot, is worth more than an extra RM200 of lock hanging loose in the dark.
These are solid mid-tier locks, not elite ones. Abloy and ABUS make higher-security cylinders and we will say so. What Vpass gives you is a solid-brass body, a real disc-detainer cylinder, rekeyability and a 5-year warranty at a price that lets you protect every door rather than one.

Frequently asked questions

Which Vpass padlock should I buy for an outdoor gate?

The VS 40 AR. Its SUS304 stainless shackle is the anti-rust option in the range; the HD models use an alloy-steel shackle that suits sheltered gates, shutters and indoor use. If the gate faces rain or sea air, choose AR.

Are Vpass padlocks rekeyable?

Yes. Every Vpass lock in the range is rekeyable, so a lost key means a rekey, not a new lock. Extra keys are cut to order, and keyed-alike or master-keyed sets are configured before dispatch so one key runs the doors you choose.

What is the difference between keyed-alike and master-keyed?

Keyed-alike means every lock in the set opens with the same key. Master-keyed means each lock has its own key and one master key opens all of them. Read the full comparison in keyed-alike vs master-keyed padlocks.

Which lock fits a roller shutter?

The VAT 50 HD Armour monoblock. It has no exposed shackle to cut and a horizontal SUS304 bolt that sits inside the shutter loops, which is why it is the shutter lock in the range rather than a standard padlock.

What is the warranty, and where are they made?

Vpass padlocks carry a five-year mechanical warranty and are manufactured in Shah Alam, Selangor. Warranty covers manufacturing defects; see the refund and returns policy for how a claim works.

How long does delivery take, and can you install it?

Padlocks ship by DHL eCommerce within 1 to 2 working days of payment: RM10 flat to Peninsular Malaysia, free for orders over RM300, and RM15 to Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan. Installation of the lock, hasp and staple by a verified technician is available in our dispatch coverage areas; send a photo of the gate on WhatsApp for a fitting quote.
