How to Verify a Malaysian Locksmith
A legitimate locksmith in Malaysia can show three things before any work starts: an SSM business registration number you can check on SSM’s e-Search, a traceable shop or business address, and an IC that matches the registration. Locksmith-core trades are represented by Gabungan Persatuan Peniaga Kunci Malaysia (GPPKM), the national locksmith trade association, which runs a member-verification check; MyLock’s founder, Vince Tan, is its Deputy President for 2025–2027. A genuine locksmith will also verify you — IC plus a utility bill or tenancy for a home, a live MyJPJ or MyDigital ID for a vehicle — and will agree the price on WhatsApp before travelling. One who opens a door without asking who owns it is the one to avoid. Every technician on MyLock’s verified roster works to this standard.
Check the SSM number
Ask for the registration number and look it up on SSM e-Search; the business name should match the invoice.
Check trade membership
GPPKM members can be confirmed through the association’s Verify a Member page.
Match the IC
The technician’s IC should match the registered business owner or a named employee.
Expect to be verified too
Home: IC + utility bill or tenancy. Vehicle: IC + live MyJPJ / MyDigital ID. No proof, no unlock.
