Access Card & RFID Tag Duplication in Malaysia
Need a spare condo or office access card, fob or tag? Whether a GPPKM-affiliated locksmith can copy it depends on the card’s technology: simple 125 kHz and many 13.56 MHz MIFARE Classic cards can be duplicated, while encrypted cards (MIFARE DESFire / AES) can only be issued by your building management. This page explains which is which, the owner-consent rules, and how a mobile locksmith handles it.
Ownership & consent first. A reputable locksmith only duplicates an access card for the verified resident/tenant or with the property owner’s authorisation — never a card that isn’t yours. Some buildings also require copies to be registered with management; we’ll tell you when that applies.

Quick Answer: Access-Card Duplication in Malaysia (2026)
- 125 kHz card/fob/tag (EM, T5577): RM 30–50 — easily copied
- 13.56 MHz MIFARE Classic: RM 40–100 — usually copyable with the right tool
- Encrypted (MIFARE DESFire / AES): not duplicable — request from building management
- Turnaround: on-site or at the shop, typically minutes once card type is identified

Which Cards Can Be Copied (and Which Can’t)
| Card technology | Common examples | Copyable? |
|---|---|---|
| 125 kHz low-frequency | EM4100 cards, T5577 fobs, older condo/office tags | Yes — quick, low cost |
| 13.56 MHz MIFARE Classic | Many condo/office cards, lift access | Usually — with a proper handheld duplicator |
| 13.56 MHz encrypted | MIFARE DESFire / AES, secure corporate & newer condo systems | No — must be issued by management |
A locksmith reads the card with a reader to identify the frequency and chip type before quoting. If it’s an encrypted DESFire/AES card, copying isn’t technically possible — you’ll need to request an extra card from your building’s management office (we can tell you what to ask for).
Want a Spare Card? Do This First
- Have the original card with you. Duplication copies your existing card — bring the one you want copied.
- Confirm you’re authorised. You should be the resident/tenant or have the owner’s permission; some buildings require copies to be registered with management.
- Know what the card opens. Lobby, lift, car-park barrier and unit door are sometimes different technologies on one card — mention everything it should work for.
- Bring a photo of any reader/system branding if you have it — helps the locksmith confirm compatibility.
Common Questions — Access Cards & Fobs
Can you copy my condo access card?
Usually, if it’s a 125 kHz card/fob or a standard 13.56 MHz MIFARE Classic card — a locksmith copies it onto a blank card or fob in minutes. If your condo uses an encrypted card (MIFARE DESFire/AES), it can’t be duplicated and you’ll need to request a spare from management. The locksmith reads the card first to tell you which type you have.
Is duplicating an access card legal?
Copying a card for your own unit, or with the property owner’s authorisation, is a normal locksmith service. A reputable locksmith will verify you’re the resident/tenant or owner before duplicating, and won’t copy a card that isn’t yours. Note some buildings’ rules require access copies to be registered with management — check your tenancy/MC rules.
My card opens the lobby but not the lift — can you fix that on a copy?
Sometimes a single card carries more than one technology (e.g. one chip for the door, another for the lift). A copy only works for the part that was successfully duplicated. The locksmith will read all the credentials on your card and tell you what can and can’t be carried over before making the copy.
Can you put my access card onto a fob or phone sticker instead?
For copyable card types, yes — the credential can often be written to a fob, wristband or sticker tag for convenience, as long as the building’s reader accepts that form factor and frequency. Encrypted cards can’t be transferred this way.
