Malaysia Locksmith Dispatch Report

This is operational data from a live locksmith dispatch platform — not a survey, not an estimate. MyLock.my routes locksmith requests to verified technicians across Malaysia through an automated WhatsApp flow, and every request leaves a timestamped record. Edition 1 aggregates 460 verified locksmith requests logged between 1 June and 26 August 2026: when Malaysians actually get locked out, what work they need, how fast dispatch moves, and where demand comes from. All figures are anonymised aggregates with the sample size shown; the full method, including what we deliberately do not publish, is in the Methodology & limitations section. To our knowledge this is the first operational dataset published by any Malaysian locksmith organisation.

Edition 1 — 1 June to 26 August 2026

The platform logged 477 raw job records in this 87-day window; after removing repeat contacts from the same customer about the same incident, that is 460 distinct requests, roughly 5 per day. Monthly request volume more than doubled across the window, from 98 in June to 218 in the first 26 days of August. We publish absolute numbers rather than only percentages because honest sample sizes are what make a young dataset worth citing — every table below shows its n.

When Malaysians get locked out

The single busiest lockout hour in Malaysia is 8–9 am — the leave-for-work hour, when a door pulled shut or keys left inside become an emergency. The morning spike (7–9 am) accounts for 16% of all emergencies, and a second peak arrives at 6–7 pm as people come home. Between them, the pattern is clear: lockouts cluster around the two moments of the day when Malaysians cross their own doorstep.

24% of emergencies arrive between 11 pm and 8 am (44 of 181) — nearly one in four Malaysians who find themselves locked out do so when most shops have long closed. And Sunday is the peak emergency day: 34 of the week’s 181 emergencies (19%) land on Sunday, roughly a third above the daily average, while Thursday is the quietest (17). Weekends together carry a third of all emergency lockouts.

What locksmith work Malaysians need

Car-related work is 46% of all Malaysian locksmith demand on the platform — lost, broken or faulty car keys and immobilisers (31%) plus keys locked inside the car (15%) — larger than every door category combined. The single biggest category is not a lockout at all: it is car key and immobiliser work, the quiet backbone of the modern locksmith trade.

Anatomy of an emergency

Two-thirds of genuine emergencies are someone standing outside a room or a car. Room lockouts and car lockouts each account for 33% of emergency requests, with the house main door at 24%. The stereotype of the locksmith emergency — a family locked out of the whole house — is real but third on the list: being locked out of a single room (a bedroom door that clicked shut, a bathroom knob that failed) is just as common as the car, and both outrank the front door.

How fast dispatch moves

When an emergency job is offered to a technician, the median time to acceptance is 2.7 minutes, and 9 in 10 accepted emergencies are picked up within 5.6 minutes of the first offer (n=95). Scheduled, non-urgent jobs are accepted in a median of 7.3 minutes (n=134). These are server timestamps from the automated dispatch flow — the moment the system offers the job to a verified technician, to the moment one accepts it.

The late-night number deserves its honest framing. A late-night emergency that a technician accepts is accepted in a median of 2.9 minutes — barely slower than the 1.9-minute daytime figure — because late-night requests route first to the small number of verified technicians who work overnight shifts. But this measures dispatch speed on accepted jobs, not a promise that a technician is always available. Requests are taken at any hour and dispatched the moment they arrive; whether help is on the way depends on a technician accepting, and the platform tells the customer quickly if nobody does. What this table shows is that the system itself adds almost no delay, day or night. It does not show how long the technician takes to arrive — we do not GPS-track technicians, so door-to-door arrival time is not in our data, and we will not estimate it.

Where requests come from

Of the 242 requests with a customer-confirmed GPS location pin (53% of all requests — the rest resolved their location in chat, and we do not infer coordinates), 79% come from the Klang Valley. The most striking detail: Kajang produced more pinned requests than Kuala Lumpur itself (56 vs 52) — demand tracks where verified technicians actively serve, not just where the population is densest. Seremban is the largest single centre outside the Klang Valley at 14%.

One caveat we insist on: this table describes where MyLock operates, not national locksmith demand. The platform’s verified-technician roster is strongest in the Klang Valley and Seremban, with newer coverage in Johor Bahru and Ipoh — areas without a verified technician generate few requests by construction.

Service quality and growth

Customers who completed a job and chose to rate it gave an average of 4.76 out of 5, with 86% five-star ratings — from a small but honest sample of 37 post-job ratings. Monthly request volume more than doubled across the edition window, from 98 requests in June to 218 in the first 26 days of August 2026.

Methodology & limitations

Every number on this page is computed from the production database of the MyLock.my dispatch platform — the same system that routes live jobs — using the filters below. We publish the method in full because a statistic without its method is just a claim.

What counts as a request A WhatsApp dispatch conversation (or a logged direct phone job) that reached a confirmed service category. Conversations that never got that far are excluded.
De-duplication Repeat contact from the same customer within 2 hours counts as one incident; 17 duplicate records were collapsed (477 raw records → 460 requests).
Response times Server timestamps from the automated dispatch flow: first technician offer → technician acceptance. Manually logged phone jobs are excluded from timing metrics because they have no offer timeline.
Geography Only requests with a customer-confirmed GPS pin (242 of 460). We do not geocode addresses or infer locations from chat text.
Small cells Any standalone statistic based on fewer than 5 events is suppressed or folded into “Other”.
Test data The window was checked for internal test entries; none were present.

What we deliberately do not publish

  • Job completion rates. Until late July 2026 the technician interface made it possible to record a finished job as cancelled with one mis-tap, so the historical completion series is not trustworthy. We fixed the interface on 26 July 2026 and will publish completion data in a future edition once a clean series exists. We would rather publish nothing than a wrong number.
  • Arrival times. We do not GPS-track technicians, so door-to-door arrival time is simply not in our data. Any Malaysian locksmith advertising a guaranteed arrival time is quoting a promise, not a measurement.
  • Prices. This report contains no price data. The Platform does not set, hold, confirm, or arbitrate prices. Pricing is agreed directly between customer and technician on WhatsApp before dispatch; indicative ranges appear on our service pages, not here.
  • Anything identifying. No customer or technician is identifiable from this report. All figures are aggregates; location data is published at area level only.

Limitations worth stating plainly: this is one platform’s data, with a 3-month window, sample sizes in the hundreds, and coverage concentrated where the verified-technician roster is strongest. It describes MyLock’s operations honestly; it does not claim to describe every locksmith job in Malaysia.
